Soup for schools.

8th August 2016

Through the “more than a Food bank fund” Wigotwnshire Food bank devised a programme to teach primary school kids how to make soup from scratch.  Over a period of several months Alison and Carol went into a local primary school one afternoon per week and worked with 162 children.  The children were taught the nutritional value of fresh vegetables and were given information on healthy diet and exercise.  They were shown how to chop vegetables safely and tasted each vegetable raw.  A demonstration was then given to the children on how to make a pot of vegetable soup, which they would get a sample of.  They were given a bag of vegetables a long with a recipe so they could make it themselves at home.  Pupils were also given information on their local Food bank and how they could make donations.  We have completed this with most of our local primary schools and may look and doing this again in the future.
