About our foodbank

Wigtownshire food bank is based at Apex Scotland and is part of our Moving In project.  The project not only covers issuing 3 days worth of emergency food but can support people in poverty with toiletries, cleaning packs, household starter packs, clothing, washing and drying facilities as well as access to volunteering opportunities and social interaction groups.  We aim to support people in a holistic way and can signpost in-house as well as to appropriate agencies as and when required.   

 

We run a charity shop from Monday- Friday with opening times 10am –  2pm weather permitting. which provides affordable clothing and household items donated by the general public.  This helps us support our project financially as well as providing valuable volunteering opportunities to gain work experience.  On a Thursday we have access to Fareshare which allows us to offer customers in need a bit of extra food.  People in need can put their names down once monthly for a fareshare parcel which is often enough to tide them over till they get paid without having to access a food parcel.  Our food bank is supported by Tesco and we have a permanent donation box located in our local 3+.  Local churches and businesses have been a great support as has our local collage and schools.  Although in the grand scheme of things we are a small food bank we deliver so much more than food to our customers and if we cannot support them in-house we will refer to a partnership agency that will be able to help.
